Writing

Below is a small piece of Amelias writing from today.

Poppy and Jasper, Poppy’s dog, are best friends.
Poppy's dad is an inventor, he comes up with new and improved inventions to share
with the world but first he has to get them safety checked  and that's where poppy comes in.

Poppy and her trusted companion Jasper,  test out her dad’s inventions.
So one day Poppy and Jasper went up up up in to the sky to test drive Poppy’s dad’s
new invention. It was an aircraft but then up, up, up  with them went a flying potato.
She couldn't believe her eyes. She completely froze letting go of the steering wheel and soon the
aircraft was out of control.  In about 40 seconds they crashed.

Poppy was out for 1 minute or 2. Soon she woke from a faint noise of
a doctor yelling for assistants. He said don’t worry I’ll take good care of you.

ANZAC WORK

Anzac is what we celebrate
Remembering the fallen
Many thousands of soldiers we owe our freedom to

You  and me must never forget them
By Felix

Dear ANZAC soldiers

Thanks for the freedom you gave us I appreciate you standing your ground and
being so brave and fighting back and saving all of those in need. We wish you all were still alive.
Even the ones that survived and the ones that didn’t and died, the ones that came out alive were
very lucky. Like my great great grandfathers and one of them has a great story,
amazing actually.  So he went to the war and he had a penny in his pocket covering
his heart so then he went out to fight and got shot in the heart but the penny deflected it
and it saved his life. He still got pretty hurt but he still survived so that's the good thing and
he lived but then he had a heart attack and died sadly.

Anzac day

Anzac day (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) is celebrated on
the 25th of April every year as a remembrance day for the New Zealand
and Australian people who fought in the war.

In 1915 New Zealand and Australian soldiers went to capture the
Gallipoli Peninsula to open a way into the Black Sea for the allied navies.
The aim was to capture Constantinople, the capital of the Ottoman Empire
which was an ally of Germany during the war. The Anzacs landed in
Gallipoli on the 25th of April and what had planned to be a bold attack to
knock the Ottomans out of the war  quickly became a draw.

The attack dragged on for 8 months and by the end of 1915 the allied
forces evacuated, after both sides suffered many losses.
Nowadays people celebrate ANZAC day by attending parades and dawn
ceremonies.
Poppies are worn to respect the people who died and some people make
Anzac biscuits
(Anzac biscuits were sent to the people at war because the ingredients
don't get spoiled over time).

ANZAC Day - 25th April
ANZAC: Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

  • Anzac day is a national day of remembrance, it marks the day
Australia and NZ soldiers joined WW1 in 1915
  • Gallipoli is a narrow peninsula of land in Turkey
  • The Anzac goal was to seize (take control of) the Gallipoli
peninsula from the Ottoman Empire and then to capture Constantinople,
the capital of the Ottoman Empire
  • The Anzac’s landed on the beach at dawn with the Turkish soldiers
positioned high above them on the cliffs firing bullets down at them
  • The fighting lasted 8 months before the British allies evacuated the
Australian and NZ troops
  • More than 2700 New Zealand soldiers were killed and over 8000
Australian soldiers were killed
  • The first Anzac Day commemorations were held on 25th April 1916
  • There is a cenotaph / memorial in most New Zealand cities and towns.
These monuments honour the dead

ANZAC (Australian New Zealand army corps)  day is a celebration and memory of the australian and New Zealand in the great war/world war 1 when the New Zealand/Australian army went to fight in Gallipoli. The soldiers who fought in Gallipoli are known as “ANZAC’s” ; those “ANZACs” wore a badge on their uniform. We remember Gallipoli to thank the soldiers who fought and died or got injured for the good. People normally celebrate this day by baking Anzac cookies and eating them, wearing a badge similar to the badge ANZAC soldiers wore in the 1914’s or during the battle of Gallipoli in the great war.

Great writing and drawing

They stood tensely  in their blocks waiting for the gun shot  to blow.
The stadium was in an unearthly silence although the athletes were well
aware that there were thousands of eyes staring at them, waiting.
BANG.There it was, the gun shot they ran out into the tracks.

She stared at the path in front of her well aware of the pounding feet
around her. They all wanted what she wanted,  the gold medal
but she was determined to win it. She cleared her mind of everything and
focused on the main goal of this race. She fought hard, tearing up the track
and using every ounce of her energy.

As they ran around the four lap course they heard the sound of the
roaring crowd. They ran and fought for the first place, one thing was
clear though, it was going to be a near tie. They were all close to each other.
It was going to be hard to decide who would win the gold medal and with
thirty people racing for the same thing, yes it would be the chance of a
lifetime. And there it was right in front of them, the finish line.

She was tired but she couldn’t stop running. As she turned onto
the last lap she breathed a sigh of relief, nearly done. She looked across
at the other athletes who were not far behind her. She felt a surge of
energy and kept up her speed and then she saw the finish line
straight ahead. She took a quick glance behind her and they were
becoming more apart then they crossed the finish line, she had won!

MONDAY 20 April

I have been reading lots of writing this morning. Great work....

Here are some extracts of what I have read.

My big race starts the night before with a yummy light dinner made by mum. I finish my dinner and wash it down with a glass of water and then head to the couch to snuggle up with my family and watch a movie. At the end of the movie mum tells me it is time to go to bed, I don't mind having an early night the night before my big race because it gives me time to think about my race tactics and what my plan is going to be on race day. I lie in bed and think about the Starter calling us to, “take your marks, set” and then I hear the bang of the gun…

I wake up the next morning and have breakfast and get my gear ready. I lay my rubber spikes out, my running singlet and shorts. As I get dressed into my athletics gear, my tummy starts to get butterflies and I start to feel sick. I know I am going to have this strange nervous feeling until I push out of my starting crouch position.

We arrive at the track and I have about forty minutes before my race. I head over to the back straight and start my warm up. I practice my starts, I swing my arms to open up my lungs, I do a few leg swings to help warm up my legs so that I won’t pull a muscle during my race. After a few 50m strides up and down the back straight I can feel my body is warm and getting relaxed but I still have my butterflies.

My heat is being marshalled up to the start line and I am extremely nervous now. I start slapping my legs and taking some deep breaths. The Starter calls, “take your marks”, I’m in lane 4 and I have my friend and biggest competition in lane 5 right next to me. “Set”, I raise my hips up and lean over my shoulders keeping my head down, my weight is forward putting pressure on my fingers. Bang, we’re off. I keep my head down for about ten metres and I drive my arms and push explosively forward, slowly lifting my head looking straight down to the finish line. I haven’t got time to think about my butterflies now, all I want is that finish line.

Like a skilled martial artist waiting for the perfect time to strike, the athletes waited until BANG!!!they sprang out of the starting blocks with crazy amount of speed, after a few seconds they were as fast as a bullet

Racing for the bullseye. She caught a glimpse of two, no three athletes passing her.She knew she had to win she had been practicing for ages just for this day so she channeled all her energy for the last moment when the other athlete thought she was going to win she shot like a rocket and managed to to get first place YAY, she was very proud of herself and she remembered that day for the rest of her life. By Darren

Running faster than a car I sped through the race.

All of other athletes were catching up ...

I sprinted towards the finish line still seeing them behind me.

I sprinted. I was running out of energy.

I started jogging I was sure I would lose but all of them were tired as well so I jogged

I used the last of my energy, to run through the finish line and win.

Superman woke up from his dream of dancing lollipops and answered the phone.
It was their boss calling them for them to save the rarest species of snake the black mumba.
Superman woke his wife and told her the mission.
She pulled out her hair curlers and said “let's do this.”
With his wife on his back, superman flew to Taronga Zoo for the job.
When they arrived the boss was waiting at the front  running in circles saying
“ oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh.”
As he flew Superman called “NEVER FEAR SUPERMAN IS HERE’
His wife pulled his ear ‘ OH AND SAME WITH SUPERWOMAN’
The manager ran to greet the pair and told them the story “ please find them we need them for the party for all our old and new
zookeepers to show them the snakes .
“ don't worry we'll find them “ said superman “ and bring them to the party for you too”
added superwoman
“ thank you and good luck” said the manager  “ thank you” ..... to be continued.

RING RING RING…..
“Margaret somebodys calling on the telephone.”
“Where, I can't hear anything.”
Turn your hearing aid up.” Cyril beckoned into Mmargarets ear.
“My hairy legs? They're not that bad are they?”said Margret, offended.
“I don't care about your hairy legs, somebody’s calling on the phone, can you please answer it!”
Margret picked up the phone “hello, office max front desk speaking.”
“No, no superman and superwoman”.
“Oh, hello, superwoman speaking”
“Help my wifi isn't working and I think I’m going to faint.”said a little voice coming from the other end of the line. “I’ll send you a free gib thing and it works, just try it.”called superman.
Oh, it works, thank you so much superman and superwoman.”
“Okay bye now.”they chorused.
“That was a lot of work don’t you think?”said Margret.
“Okay good night.”

ONLINE LEARNING

WOW I am so impressed with all of the fantastic work that is being done.

I have added a couple of pieces of writing and pictures that have been drawn.

This following piece was written by Theo about NELLIE.

Nellie the Elephant was devastated when she saw the circus in ashes. It all started on Tuesday morning when Nellie and the other circus animals were practicing for their night time performance. It was all going well. Juliet the Dog was dancing on the tightrope, Felix the Giraffe was flipping through the air and Nellie was balancing on a big yoga ball borrowed (well stolen really) from the gym beside the town hall.

Everything was going as planned when all of a sudden Nellie heard a scream, ‘‘aaaahhhhh.’’ Nellie spun around to see Juliet had fallen off the tightrope! Nellie ran forward determined to catch Juliet before she hit the ground. But she wasn’t going to make it! Juliet was falling towards the ground with great speed. But then Juliet had hit the springy safety net and bounced back up to the tightrope with great style.

‘’Phew’’said Nellie. ‘‘I forgot the safety net was there’’. ‘‘I want to do that again’’ said Juliet and she jumped off the tightrope, bounced off the net but this time instead of landing gracefully back on the tightrope she crashed into the wall!  Juliet hung onto the banner saying CIRCUS in big letters. But she was slipping! Then suddenly she fell crashing into lantern after lantern. Then when it looked like it couldn't get any worse the Circus tent caught on fire! And Juliet was lying motionless on the floor.
Nellie ran forwards, scooped up Juliet with her trunk and  salvaged all of her possessions she could find. By now most of the tent was on fire and all of the other circus animals had evacuated. Nellie ran towards the door but dropped the still motionless Juliet. And just when she was about to go back into the circus tent to save Juliet, the circus owner with four others tugged Nellie by the trunk out of the burning tent.

Three hours after the fire was put out Nellie, lonely and devastated, quietly mourns the death of Juliet; her friend, then walks away from everything she ever knew to start a new life. On this journey to a new destination Nellie sees Tigger the Tiger, her sworn circus enemy.  But as they both look around at the devastating site, they realise they have no one else but each other. So putting their differences aside they agree to set out in hope of finding a new life.

After weeks of walking Nellie and Tigger see a glimpse of what could be a new hope. As they get closer they see it’s green, grassy and full of animals. A jungle rainforest! It’s perfect for the both of them and from then on Nellie and Tigger live happily in their new home forever. But Nellie never forgets that day when she lost her friend Juliet

AWESOME PICTURES FROM BENJAMIN:

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MICHAEL IN LOCKDOWN…

I slowly feel myself waking in the morning. I lift my head off my pillow just enough so that I can look down to the end of my bedroom where my clock sits on a set of drawers. The big red numbers read 8.00am. I rest my head back onto my pillow and roll onto my side and look across to my brother's bed to see if he is still sleeping, but today he is already up and probably playing on his ipad with his friends downstairs.

I flick the duvet off me and wander out of my room down the hallway to the bathroom and turn the shower on so the water will warm up before I hop in. I carefully step into the shower and using my feet I test if the water is warm by touching the bottom of the shower. One thing I love about having a shower is using my mum’s slippery bar of soap and using all the different shampoo and conditioners with their clean smelling scent. I squeeze the shampoo into one hand and then rub my hands together and then onto my head to clean my hair (which has grown a lot and needs a trim). After a good ten minutes in the shower dad usually sticks his head into the bathroom and tells me to “hop out, you’re wasting water and I have to pay for it”. I start singing and stay in for another five minutes with my back to the water and using my hands as a microphone I sing a little louder to annoy my dad because he’s working and talking to people in meetings…
