WEEK 3

Another great week in Room 4:

WHAT AN AWESOME LOOKING GROUP OF KIDS

CONGRATULATIONS to the students in the photo below:
They are the Cultural leaders, School Council or house captains

MATHS: We have been learning to be Data detectives: asking questions, collecting data, displaying and analysing it. The data in the next two graphs is from NZ Census.

We made our own data squares as shown below. We included our age, sport, and favourite colour. Then we were able to make our own bar graphs from the data.

SOFTBALL SKILLS: We were very fortunate to have a couple of people come out and show us some skills for softball, throwing and catching with a mitt and running the bases.

MARSHMALLOW CHALLENGE

Today we had a challenge.
First we discussed what we all thought needed to happen within a team. These are some of the ideas we came up with:

  • have Patience
  • make new friends
  • learn how others work
  • see what other people are like
  • test our brain skills
  • HAVE A GO
  • Share your ideas
  • Listen to other peoples ideas
  • take turns

We were out into teams to complete the Marshmallow Challenge.

Mrs Ewen listened to what we were saying as we were completing the challenge:

Why is this so hard?
I don't know about this
How are we going to make this higher
Does the marshmallow have to go on the top

It has to balance

THE WINNERS: With a height of 68 cms

Inspiring Stuff

For Current events today Michael shared about a Parkour school in New Zealand, based in Hamilton. We watched a couple of clips related to parkour and we have added them below.

PLEASE DO NOT TRY ANY OF THIS

We also watched a very early clip of

We Are The Captain Of Our Destination

WEEK ONE

Even though it was a short first week we have packed a lot into it.

  • Essential Spelling lists
  • Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Quality Learning Plan
  • Photos
  • Team Work
  • Get Wise with ASB
to name a few things. Check out some of the photos below.

Jeff from Get Wise talked to us about Money. What key aspects can you remember?

BELOW: WORKING ON A GAME WITH A TEAM OF STUDENTS. The task was to come up with ideas for a game that you could play with just a few items: dice, sticks and pen and paper. This was to help during your journey on the ship from England to New Zealand.
