WEEK ONE TERM THREE

WOW here we are already into the 3rd term. We have had a fantastic beginning.

Check out our wonderful writing below. It was based on a poem by James K. Baxter and is about Room 4 holidays.

Margaret Mahy playground was usual enough, it had
A slide, climbing equipment, a flying fox and a
Sky over it, and it even had trampolines
I never went to. My friends and I did what kids
Do at big playgrounds play tag, creeper around
Avoiding other people, while keeping in
Mind that the hungry taggers might be behind.
Having a fun time
Doing nothing important.
By Benjamin

The stadium was usual enough; It had
A rugby field, tiered seating, a sky
Over it, and even some food vans
I never went to. My brothers, my dad and I
Did What boys do,
Watched the rugby, cheered as the Crusaders scored a try,
Laughed as the Crusaders dodged the Jaguares,
Snacked on the new perky nana lumps.
Supporting our Crusaders
By Alexander

The riding park was usual enough it had
Horses, paddocks, tracks, and jumps all around. Even a massive
Log jump I never go over. My friend Gabrielle and I did what horse crazy girls do. Riding in the freezing cold ran. Decorating the ponies manes with ribbon, dodging the birds and rabbits, jumping higher and higher, trying to beat the 90cm record mucking around
Doing nothing important.
By Amelia

The mall was boring but I stayed in the car all the time,
I was with my brother and my cousin
we were on the bottom car park and we were on the phone.
It was loud in the car park old rusty tractors were taking loud clanging trolleys, car lights flashing on and off and dusty dirt in the air
Doing nothing important
By Declan

My party was usual enough; it had
Delicious party food, carefully wrapped presents, chocolatey chocolate cake (with strawberry icing), all the usual stuff. It even had chips that I
never really ate. My friends and I did what good friends do-talk, watched a movie, played games, painted.
Doing something important.
By Anahera

Waikanae was usual enough it had
Birthdays to set up, tenpin bowling, cancelled flights and a gaming room I never went to. My mum, cousins and I bowled balls, destroyed the pins made loud thumps, dodged the all the people strolling around at the airport. Sped like rabbits shooting out the door on the train station.
Doing nothing important.

ALSO A huge thanks for the great birthday gifts and greetings from everyone.

We have completed our novel: HATCHET, by Gary Paulsen. We all thoroughly enjoyed the book as well as the activities that we were involved in during the last week.
One activity was to get into groups and list items that we thought Brian would find in the survival kit. How many of these items were in the one he retrieved from the plane?

Matches
knife
first aid
sleeping bag
food
compass
flare gun
foil blanket
tarpaulin
bug spray
walkie talkie
fresh water
tent
survival book
map
life jacket
whistle

SHELTERS OR BOWS and ARROWS:

Room 4 chose small groups to work on their shelters of Bows and Arrows, only using things found within our school grounds. Even though we didn't have a hatchet to use like Brian did, we were allowed to have our wood cut by Mrs Ewen.

WEEK 10

What a fantastic start we have had for the last week of term.
This morning we worked on a team activity called paper holding. We gave it a go but Mrs Ewen is going to give us another try on Wednesday.

We also learnt about the different persuasive techniques required when writing persuasive pieces of writing such as speeches.

Week 9

Another busy week in Room 4. This week we worked on our animal reports. We now have a clear file full of reports about a range of animals. Check out some of them below.

Leather Back Sea Turtles, by Avesta

Arctic Wolf  by Daniel

Red Fox by Ivy

Mantis By Raeann

Sloths by Savannah

Matariki was also happening: These photos are of our art celebrating Matariki. Congratulations to Lily and Samarth for their fantastic presentations at the Matariki evening.

We also got to listen to an author reading her book on Matariki.
