2022 Cultural Day

Room 4 tamariki all looked fantastic during our Cultural day parade.

ROOM 4 CULTURES

During the past two weeks, Room 4 have been working extremely hard on the Google slides below. We were learning to research our own countries and to produce a presentation to show to our class.

We had to research various sites and books. Part of our learning was working with others, taking short notes, summarising and paraphrasing. While making our slides we learnt how to insert photos, add backgrounds and make transitions. We also had to think about the fonts and colours used.

CRICKET

Huge Thanks to Mr Marsh for creating 3 cricket teams so that our student got a chance of experiencing cricket. They had a festival day today.

'The Heat' won the Festival (literally and figuratively)!  Lennox and Chiharu were the stars for The Heat and Luke put in some good performances for The Firebirds.  Luke was by far and away the most enthusiastic player!

I have attached pics of the two teams together and the winning team.  Have a cracker of a weekend.

WALK WHEEL WEEK

WOW thanks to the student council and their guidance from Mrs K, sorting an awesome week for us.

Lots of fun activities spread throughout the week. Today was non-uniform and FUNKY FOOTWEAR: Check out some of the great ideas!

ALSO, we got to design futuristic footwear!

WATER SAFETY

This week we worked on water safety in the school pool. We all wore clothes so that we could tell the difference between clothes and togs when in the water.

We noticed the weight of the clothes dragged us down. We put buckets on our heads and used the air pocket to breathe. We were pushed out of the small dinghy to get a feeling of being overwhelmed when landing in the water.

Mrs Ewen was there beside us through all of this and this helped us feel safer!

The Best Of Me

We have been writing about the Best Part of Me: All Room 4 students chose their best part of their body and wrote about why this part was the BEST:

We All Laugh in the Same Language -- New version

Ilam School will be having our Cultural week during Week 7. Here is the song we need to know.

Carlos says “Hola”, Sun Lee says “Nee-how.”

Chantal says “Bonjour”, Mario says, “Ciao.”

Sasha says, “Pri-vyet”, Thomas says “Jambo”

Sarala says, “Mah-rah-ba”, Kaitlyn says, “Hello” …but

Chorus

We all laugh in the same language

We all love to learn and play

Our hearts beat in the same rhythm

Round the world, we’re all the same

We all cry when we feel sorrow

           We all love our family

We all hope for a better tomorrow

Round the world, you and me

Raj rides a rickshaw, Nigel takes the bus

Gabe drives a bobsled, Cynda walks through dust

Early each morning , just like me and you

Children all around the world are on their way to school! (oh)

Chorus

We’re ebony, ivory, bronze and gold and tan

We’re citizens of planet earth, a family of man

Chorus

We all laugh in the same language, (Caucasian, Eurasian, Tibetan, Malaysian)

Our hearts beat in the same rhythm, (Japanese, Portuguese, Chinese, Vietnamese)

We all cry when we feel sorrow, (Algerian, Syrian, Lithuanian, Rumanian)

We all hope for a better tomorrow, (Bantu, Hebrew, Cree, Aborigine)

We all laugh in the same language, (Alsatian, Croatian, Russian, Prussian)

Our hearts beat in the same rhythm, (Hopi, Cherokee, Navajo, Seminole)

We all laugh in the same language, (American, Canadian, Mexican, Arcadian)
